From the SF Chron this evening:

"A's head athletic trainer Steve Sayles just told us that third baseman Eric
Chavez's rehab from back surgery isn't going as well as hoped in Phoenix,
and the team has decided to shut him down for the time being. It could be
awhile before Chavez returns to action with the A's; Sayles said that once
Chavez is pain-free, his rehab will have to start completely over.

He's a mess, and it seems unlikely he'll ever fulfill the hopes we had for
his career.

Shooty

Yeah, 3 friggin' surgeries last year. No surprise. Disappointing,
but not surprising. I've grown used to Hannahan though--he's a good
all-around player. So, if lots of other things go right for the A's,
this will not be too big a deal, in the grand scheme and all. Get
better ASAP Eric. But in the meantime, it's time to start kicking
some Boston ass in the land of the rising sun. Let's go A's.

He'll be missed in the field, but given his lack of production with the
bat the last few years I don't think he'll be missed.

I do wish him personally a full recovery, though.

We? Speak for yourself, Shooty.

Chavez peaked in 2001, and he's been a joke for a few years now.
