Apparently the Twins are talking to Blake. I am hoping this doesn't
happen. If it does, does anyone have a guess as to what it might
cost? I think I would be as happy with the platoon that worked 3B in
2008. I think sometimes Twins fans are overly up on Blake, as he
seems to be able to hit against the Twins better than he does other
teams.
He's a career .264 hitter. On the upside, he seems to hit about 19 HR
a year (which is more than all the '08 Twins who even thought about
playing 3B, together), and has proven to be pretty durable. In the
past 6 seasons he's had only one year where he played fewer than 147
games.
I just have this idea that he is going to think he's worth a lot of
money, and I wish the Twins would use their money on some relief
pitching.

I'm kind of torn on Casey Blake. I agree that the Twins platoon of
Buscher/Harris would be a cheap, productive duo. Like you, I'd rather
spend the money on relief help, but the pickings are pretty slim. I
definitely am opposed to trading prospects for Adrian Beltre, Garret
Atkins or Hank Blalock (ish). I'd rather spend the money on Blake than
trade for a third baseman.
Blake can also play OF and 1B. The Twins don't really have a backup
first baseman so they might be interested in Blake for that reason
alone. >> Stay informed about: Casey Blake |

I know a lot of people are down on Blake, but I think he'd be a decent
signing provided of course he isn't terribly expensive. Of course I'd
rather have Beltre, but then I'd also rather take a magic carpet to travel
across the country rather than flying commercial.
Blake at least has some pop and I don't think he'd be a downgrade
defensively. I don't see Buscher/Harris improving much so this looks like a
decent upgrade.

I would agree. I like Casey Blake as a player, but would rather see
the Twins spend the money on signing him, rather than any sort
of trade for prospects.
