Tonight in New Hampshire, Clay Buchholz struck out 11 batters in 6.1
innings, allowing only 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 run (apparently on a
dubious inside-the-park homer that some felt should've been an error).
He's now 6-2, 1.79, with 111 strikeouts and 19 walks in 80.1 innings.
I don't know why he's still in AA, to be honest. Wow!
Unfortunately, Jon Lester had his worst start of the season tonight in
Louisville (4.1 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 4 BB, 4 SO). He's had a couple of shaky
starts before this one, and that's why he won't be called up for
tomorrow night's game in Seattle. For whatever reason, he's just not
getting the job done lately, and needs to work out his problems.

Somehow, I don't think that you have anything to worry about with Buchholz.
Short of the Twins trading Johan Santana (with a contract extension) to the
Red Sox for Buchholz, I think that there's nothing to worry about. >> Stay informed about: Buchholz Dominant Again! |

I read somewhere that Lester is being told not to use his <insert
some pitch here> for some reason or other. It may well be that
the Sox want him to tighten up some of his other pitches, even
if it means giving up (what ultimately are meaningless) hits in
(ultimately meaningless) minor league games.
I'm not saying that's the case -- and personally, I'd rather he
find a way to dominate these games anyway -- but if it's true, it
at least makes bad outings like the above slightly less alarming.
Catch you later.

That makes some sense. After all, the minor leagues are supposed to
be a learning experience. And if they think that Lester is really close to
being MLB ready, but needs to work on this or that pitch, then it'd make
perfect sense that the Sox would want him to work on those pitches in
games. >> Stay informed about: Buchholz Dominant Again! |
