It's embarrasing to be within 3 or 4 games of .500? Come on, Scott...that's
a dumb comment for you to make. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. The pitching is
embarassing, save Galarraga and Rapada. Hitting is certainly not
embarassing. As well as this division is doing, the Tigers wouldn't have to
do anything about pitching all year and they'd still be in the playoff hunt
at the end of the season. >> Stay informed about: Brian Bass Shuts Down Tigers |

Not really. Well, in a back-handed sort of a way, I guess it is an
insult. But consider--going into last night's game he had pitched 17
innings in his major league career. He was facing a lineup of sluggers
and he allowed only 3 hits over 4 innings, striking out none. So what
was it? Tigers batters failing? Or Brian Bass showing that he's going
to have a WHIP of less than 1.00 for the rest of the season? >> Stay informed about: Brian Bass Shuts Down Tigers |

I'm starting to wonder about Leyland. Guillen playing 3rd with Cabrera
at 1st? What's up with that? He's promising yet another shake up for
tomorrow's series in Detroit against Boston. How many times can he
overhaul the lineup? Does he know how to handle these guys? >> Stay informed about: Brian Bass Shuts Down Tigers |

I don't see them as overrated underachievers. It's a mixed bag:
Granderson: Up and coming All Star
Cabrera: Slumping superstar
Guillen, Pudge, Sheffield, Kenny Rogers: past their prime
Ordonez: Looking good
Renteria: Solid, but inconsistent.
Polanco: Solid player that's slumping
Thames: Nothin' special
Bonderman: overrated underachiever
Verlander: Off to a horrible start, should rebound.
Robertson: Unremarkable lefty that should be better.
Todd Jones: Undertalented overachiever
Rest of Bullpen (as now composed): Lousy >> Stay informed about: Brian Bass Shuts Down Tigers |

I realize you were trying to "one-up" the Tiger's fans but it was also
an insult to Bass.
I don't think you have to go to such extremes as "Tiger's batters
failing" to "Bass having a 1.00 WHIP for the rest of the season" to
give the kid his props for having a very good game.
It's fun to see the standings in the division totaly inverse from what
most "experts" predicted. >> Stay informed about: Brian Bass Shuts Down Tigers |

For a team that spent all that money in the off-season and was
*supposedly* going to run away with the division? For a
theoretical "powerhouse" offense...and a shoe-in for a World
Series run (according to some)? Yes, it HAS been an embarassing
season for the Tigers so far, IMO.
And yes, the Tigers offense has been embarassing for several of
the games I've watched on MLB.TV this season. It's just the pitching
that has been *consistently* embarassing.
On the positive side of things, it was a beautiful sunny day here in
Minneapolis to walk to the dome for the game. It was a great crowd
at the game, and the Twins didn't disappoint their fans today
(or in this series in general). A nice payback for when the hapless
Tigers won those two games from the Twins earlier this season.
And the icing on the cake is the Twins in first place in the ALC, with
the Tigers fading farther back from .500....and in last place in the
ALC....AGAIN.
The Tigers are starting to look like the 'Keystone Cops' of baseball
this season. Guillen missing both of those singles in the seventh
inning was priceless....priceless. I haven't laughed that hard at a game
since watching Granderson tripping over his own feet in game four
of the 2006 World Series.

Actually....Bass, Rincon, Guerrier, Crain, and Nathan all shut down
the hapless Tigers offense in this series.
The Tigers offense has the potential for big games here and there,
but unfortunately for them it seems they can only have those big
games once every five or six days. The rest of the time they look
VERY mediocre, at best.

Yes, but he is honestly trying. He yells at them, he changes
around the lineup, he tries young pitchers, he trades away
dead weight, etc. What more can he do with a classic
case of overrated underachievers?

I think all of those things equate to being overrated underachievers.
Other than Verlander, none of their starters are quality starters. And even
Verlander is looking questionable.
I'd be tempted to add Polonco to the "past their prime" list, and I think
Renteria is getting there as well.
Beyond Ordonez, Granderson and possibly Cabrera (I think the jury
is still out on him, as he continues to get heavier and heavier), I don't
see a whole lot of spark on the Tigers team this season....and I've
been watching most of their games this season (mainly out of morbid
curiosity).
Oh well, at least they have Brandon Inge.

Even nicer to be outside for the game. That's why I was at Midway.

Perfect day for it!
Has the Saints season started already, or is it still pre-season?
How are they looking this year?
