Despite the Brewers had a very big chance to sweep the Reds today because
they were ahead by 2 runs going to the bottom of the 10th. The pitching for
the most part was great. Yvionni Gilardo pitched a solid 8 innings. Mitch
Setter came in for relief and did very well, 4 strikeouts. If I was Ned I
would have given Gagne a chance to rest and have Setter try to close the
game.
Gagne did his best in trying to close it but gave up 2 back to back HRs for
the Reds to tie it. Gagne has been closing quite a bit this past week and
because of all the work he has done he is entitled to rest. So he must be
somewhat tired. I think he should have let Setter in unless he has trouble
then bring in Gagne.
Anyways it was a good series. A sweep would have been nice, but winning 2
out of 3 is just as good.
I know I at first bitched about Gagne at the begining of the year but I am
wrong on that. Gotta give it a chance. I thought Gagne was suppose to have
off on Saturday because I was surprised Yost had him come in instead of
Derrick Turnbow.
I wonder if Derrick Turnbow will ever pitch a inning again?
Besides it also was raining big time in the bottom of the 10th and that
probably didn't help Gagne.

My keyboard is going to hell.... it should be Brewers.
The Brewers charter airplane plus my cousin as well who is also flying on
the same plane as the Brewers should land later tonight at Mitchell Field.

Do we warm up the fire Yost threads now or wait `til summer. He's
already mismanaging the bullpen. If Turnbow is just left to rot why
take up the roster spot? Gagne had had shakey outings and Yost throws
him out four consecutive. I love listening to the yakkers at TMJ going
on about how St. Louis will stumble. My reply would be they can count
on Uncle Ned to pick them up. I used to defend him and Weeks but
neither one is going to amount to much more than their present mediocrity. >> Stay informed about: Brewres Game on Sunday, April 20th |

It's early and you learn. This definitely should be the last time
Yost uses Gagné on four consecutive days, no matter how much he
says he can go.

I think he wants to build up a "SAVE" stats for his closer. I think he used
Fransico Cordero too much because he had some bad days.

I don't rememeber thinking at Yost overused Cordero last year, but
the stats might show otherwise. It looked today like Gagné's fastball
didn't have enough stuff to set up the off speed pitch. Instead,
on a couple of pitches it looked like he was pitching batting
practice.

As the season gets longing, the teams with weak pitching become to
suffer, as arguing on team starts to domminate. I am still predicting
the Brewers end up < 0.500. >> Stay informed about: Brewres Game on Sunday, April 20th |

John, please explain to me why we have to "give it a chance" with GAGne? He
is 6 for 9 or 10 which I don't believe is a high percentage for a closer.
Granted the Beermakers came back and won at least two of the blown saves,
but this is something that was a sticking point on last years team. How many
of the blown leads last year cost them at the end? You can't give away games
and rest your season on morale victories. The Cards and Cubs and Reds and
Pirates and Astros don't give a bleep.

I've seen closers from other teams breakdown and have bad days, like in the
case with David Weathers on Saturday. Not sure why they didn't go with
Francisco Cordero against his former teammates. Cordero seems to stop the
Brewers cold.
Gagne is not going to be 100% perfect. He is going to have some bad days,
just like last year when the Brewers played the Texas Rangers and were
winning 3-0 going to the bottom of the 9th, Francisco Cordero blew the game
away and the Rangers got 4 runs to win the game. Similiar to what had
happened today.
The game isn't won until the final out. Today happened to not to be Gagne's
day.
Having to watch other teams or sometimes watch other teams I have seen
closers screw up badly where a team was winning and end up losing the game.
Brewers are not the only team.
I hope they don't blow too many games this year. Last year was bad. Today
was only the first one of the year. Hopefully no more blow outs this year,
but its nothing to get upset about if there are just a couple more of them.

Frank Kremblas ...down from Triple A? I don't want to knock Nedley from the
post just yet, but, what about Gumby, what about Cooper, hell I'll even take
the position, can't be any worse then Nedley. Besides I can always read
these postings if I hit a bad spot during my career. Will someone get Neddy
