Between ticket sales, tv ratings and the Texas subsidy, A-Rod pays for
himself.
Tickets sales were 3.4 mil the year before A-Rod and 3.7, 4.0, and 4.2
since he came to NY. If you say half of the 800k increase in ticket
sales is A-Rod X $25 per ticket = $10 million per year. Add in another
$30 mil due from Texas and higher tv ratings and there is plenty of
cash to sign A-Rod.
A-Rod is a freebie for the Yankees. >> Stay informed about: Boras: No ARod Deal Until after season |

Heh, but I'd also prefer they finish above .400 this season and next
as well. They'll have holes to fill at RF, 1B and possibly DH (if
Giambi doesn't recover fast enough). Those are all offensive
positions and they could do without having to look for a 3B
replacement as well in this market. This winter's FA class is not
impressive at all. After last winter's pricing, it probably will
become ridiculous again. >> Stay informed about: Boras: No ARod Deal Until after season |

Not necessarily. There usually is a window between the end of WS and
the deadline date (I'd guess mid November as was the case with
Sheffield option). Remember the Yanks can offer the most money
followed by the Rangers in the context of the current contract. It
makes sense to keep them engaged as the Yanks probably could offer at
least 3mil per more than the next team. Plus there is a huge payroll
relief coming in 2009 with additional revenue stream. >> Stay informed about: Boras: No ARod Deal Until after season |

You know, ARod is great and all and I don't want to see him go but
realistically, this team can finish under .500 without him.

Beyond that, given their production - with so many players having down
years - they should have a record which would have them in the race with
any kind of normal record in close games. So, the idea that "they stink
with him, they can stink without him" is even more foolish than it
normally is. >> Stay informed about: Boras: No ARod Deal Until after season |
