Hmm to me nothing interesting. If he'll do 2 years 20 million do it
now no questions asked. If he wants 3 years 30 I'd think about it. 4
years I honestly think is to much. I do think they'll make a
qualifying offer in either event. IIRC it's 10% above his 2007 salary
for one year correct? >> Stay informed about: Beckett/Lowell trade |

IF he keeps up a decent pace, you keep him. If he wants 4 and the Sox
offer 2, settle on 3 with an option. He's a veteran guy who *looks*
like he's found his stride, great influence in the clubhouse...keep
him.

Like it or not, it would be a marketing/PR bonanza.

Personally, me neither. I'm just saying what if...
I mean, we've lived with Manny's BS all these years because he
produced; what if ARod were to give you 50/140 for the next 5 years? >> Stay informed about: Beckett/Lowell trade |

They don't but use common sense there is a limit and if a big chunk
goes to Arod and it forces them to hold a line with say Papelbon in a
few years you'd scream to high hell. That's why people care about the
numbers. Is that you Scott Boras? >> Stay informed about: Beckett/Lowell trade |

=Hogwash. Want to revise history? I'll win that one in a landslide.
How did Pedro or Lowe fare in 05? Cabrerra was a mistake but even he
didn't have a great year. While Clement was a collosal bust signing
Pedro or Lowe would also have been a waste of money. You need to have
an eye on the future when doing "now" things or you will pay for it.
Kind of like a certain NY team is finding out. You can't just throw
money around like there's no tomorrow because there is a tomorrow. >> Stay informed about: Beckett/Lowell trade |

IIRC, Lowell tends to be a first half player and slides in the second
half somewhat, doesn't he? >> Stay informed about: Beckett/Lowell trade |

LOL. Agreed, 100%. I never want to see Slappy in Boston. Let NY
overspend and deal with his distractions. >> Stay informed about: Beckett/Lowell trade |

If he bombs the second half, I'm not sure they will. If he keeps it
up, absolutely. 2 years I think is the optimal length to sign him from
the Sox point of view. He will likely want 3-4. We don't have any
prospects whom are really ready to come up at that position, so
resigning him is not a bad idea in my mind. >> Stay informed about: Beckett/Lowell trade |

If 2 years is optimum then 2 years only, just need to look at Pedro and
Damon to see where Theo showed his smarts on contract length. We don't want
to pay for 3 years to get 2 good years.
Looking at the Yankees, they seem to have lots of long contracts where the
star ran out of gas. >> Stay informed about: Beckett/Lowell trade |
