Ever seen a game where two runners from the same team were
called out for baserunning interference on different plays
in the same inning? Neither had most of the crowd at Sunken
Diamond until today's blowout. The umpiring crew,
apparently not satisfied with ejecting Matt Manship from the
bench during Saturday's game, got their revenge for the
crowd's merciless harassment today.

On one of the interference calls there was a Stanford runner
at third. The umpire ruled he had to go back to third and
could not score on the play. No one sitting near me was
sure what the rules say on this point. I will be grateful
to anyone who can offer an answer. Thanks. - Tony

Hey Tony

I was actually at a game earlier this season where Maine was behind
Villanova 4-3, late in the game (8th inning perhaps). There were Maine
runners on 1st and 3rd and no outs.

Maine's next batter hit into a 4-6-3 double play attempt. But the hitter
outran the throw to first and the guy on third went home to tie the game.

But the umpire ruled that the runner going into second had slid outside the
base path to disrupt the relay throw to first. So the ruling was not only
that the guy was out at first (to complete the double play), but the runner
that "scored" had to go back to third.

Alas, Maine's next batter popped up and they never scored the guy from
third. They lost by the same 4-3 score.

So that is apparently the rule in that case.

Nice series win for you guys this weekend. Wonder if the trees will ever
lose a regional or super regional under this relatively new format?

And here's to Long Beach and Fullerton not being sent there.

Sorry, Eric, looks like we get Long Beach. IMHO Stanford
got screwed by the selection committee.
