Just reading the account of Congressional hearings where Tejada may be
subject to prosecution for perjury for his 2005 testimony. New findings in
the Mitchell report make his testimony at conflict with sworn testimony in
the Mitchell report. I would like Congress to put Angelos on the stand and
find out what he knew about Tejada's drug usage. Since Angelos unloaded
Tejada one day before Mitchell went public, I would also like Peter to
testify if he was tipped off regarding the contents of the report. Houston
should sue the Orioles to undo the Tejada trade.

I'm sure Houston knew what they were getting. There were
unsubstantiated reports that all clubs saw the report before the general
public. Getting Dr. B-12 before the report came out allows Houston to
avoid the PR hit.

Mitchell and Selig claim there was no pre release to anyone.

Selig also claims that he first heard of steroids in like 2001.

Looks like the FBI is going to contact Dr. Tejada according to this mornings
papers. Hope he tells the truth or he'll just be adding on to the charges.
Give him the Marian Jones treatment - six months.

I read an article from Houston stating that Dr. B-12 could face up to 5
years in prison.

That is the maximum per count. I doubt whether he would get that in light
of the Jones sentencing. That will be the threat though.

I think that you could find players on any major or minor league
baseball who were using steroids illegally. And I think you would
find managers and owners were aware of the activity at some level, but
did nothing because it is a pervasive practice. Washington Nationals
included. Going on endless McCarthy-like witchhunts to discover all of
the past and current steroid users and enablers in baseball will do
nothing to correct the problem. It will only provide full employment
for thousands of lawyers through decades of litigation. The steps
we should take after the Mitchell report should be focused on stopping
the behaviour now and in the future. Some of those steps should
include ongoing testing, serious penalties and a willingness to hold
to those penalties no matter how painful they may be to team
performance. First infraction the player is out for a season and the
team can't bring up a replacement from the minors. Second infraction
and you are out of baseball permanently.

I can agree with modifying the ban somewhat, however the team owners
should feel some pain too. A fine won't help much. But if they can't
bring up another player then that will bring pain that they remember -
potential damage to the win/loss record and pain the other players
will feel.

The owners and players have got to do something serious. If not the
eyewash solution they are likely to come up with will be worse than
doing nothing.

I completely agreed. However, Selig and Fehr ignored this problem
because it was good for business. Baseball will never move forward
until these two are gone. Bring in a new independent commssioner and a
new player association manager. Then you can move forward with new
policies.

Harsh! I propose a 30 day ban for first timers and a whole season ban
for a 2nd positive test. A 3rd positive would get you a 5 year ban.
Tests should include blood and urine checks and should be randomly done
twice a season. The team should also be fined for infractions.
