And it is primarily Ricciardi's fault. Right now Orlando Hudson, a gold
glover and 300 hitter,
could be the Jays second baseman (although he is now out for the season at
Arizona with a broken thumb)
and Aaron Hill at third. Gabe Gross, would be a big improvement over
Overpaid at fist base.
He can run, unlike Overbay who is almost the perfect double-play candidate.
Gross if allowed to play
everyday would have a much higher batter average than his .250 at Milwaukee.
Although Frank Thomas is doing better I would have given the DH position to
John Griffin-Ford who
hit 26 home runs at Syracuse this year. Ford can also run much faster than
big Frank.
But Ricciardi and Gibbons seem to favor these old veteran players like
Thomas, Glaus, Overbay, Stairs, Gregg Zaun
MacDonald etc. And, it would seem they are all coming back for 08.
Long-suffering Blue Jay fans certainly
don't have much to look foward to. Another .500 year or worse.
