I'm a rarity. I'm 58 and was born and raised in San Francisco. Grew
up with the Mays/Marichal/McCovey Giants and hated the Dodgers as a
kid. Then, when I grew up, I ended up moving to Southern California.
Now I like both teams, but living down here I have to admit that I
lean to the Dodgers. If the Dodgers can't win it..then I'm rooting
for the Giants. That said, from what I feel is neutral point of view,
I'd have to say that in the past 50 years the Dodgers are the more
successful club. At present the Dodgers have a better team. I'm
sorry to say this, but I can't name a single offensive player for the
Giants. The only pitcher that comes to mind is Tim Lincecum. Bottom
line is that the Giants organization don't seem to be willing to put
out the dollars necessary to field a competitive team and their farm
teams don't seem to be providing quality players of late. I wish the
Giants were strong as I long for the days of my youth (60's) when the
Dodger-Giant rivalry was as burning hot as the Red Sox-Yankees battles
of present day (I'm tired of hearing about the wonderful Red Sox). By
the way, this is blasphemy, but I go to Angels games more than Dodgers
games nowadays. I know they fell short, but they have a really
excellent team and an owner committed to winning.
