I have four closers: Ray, Benitez, Lidge, and Papelbon. I've been offered
Alex Rodriguez for Mike Lowell and Jonathan Papelbon. My league pays $5 per
category (R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV ERA SO HLD WHIP), I'm leading saves by a
good bit right now.

I'm trying to come up with a good reason to turn it down. I have Chipper at
third, Lowell is my backup 2B/3B. ARod is obviously a huge upgrade but I'm
not sure it's worth giving up my top closer and a sure lock on the saves
category. I'm in second in the league right now.

Any thoughts? Am I crazy to turn it down? Is it worth countering Lidge or
Ray and keeping Papelbon?

Chris

Unless this is a keeper league, and there are salary cap implications, you
HAVE to get A-Rod if he's available. Hard to tell from your post if you
could use Chipper in a CI spot, but it doesn't matter. Teams win and lose
because they have the balls to pull the trigger on trades involving
superstars. 1 Great is far better than a mediocre (Lowell) and an up and
coming (Paplebon).

I can't think of a league where this wouldn't be a good deal for
you...ARod's numbers should improve...Lowell's probably will not...and
Papelbon could go cold, too.

well, I'm a red sox fan, and a HUGE fan of papelbon. but if this isn't a
keeper league I'd do this trade in a heartbeat. just keep in mind lidge has
been bounced from the closer role (temporarly) I have lidge and wagner
luckly so I have a good number 2 guy to throw in there, so trying to counter
with lidge probably wont' get you anywhere right now. I'd take this deal,
dealing a backup 3b and closer for a top 5 player is a no brainer, even if
Arod is in a slump, he's boud to break out of it. also, you can then trade
chipper (or hell try to trade Arod and someone else for pujols) good luck
