Does anyone out there really believe this club will get to 500? It is
looking like a long frustrating 100+ loss season.
One has to wonder who Illitch will hold accountable?

I suspect that, at this point, Ilitch is as baffled as the rest of us.
Right now, even a six game win streak doesn't get them to .500, and they're
approaching a point where they'd have to think in "Minny Math" terms when it
comes to the Injuns.

Even the imaginary "Minny Math" won't save the Tigers this season.

Up until the last couple of days, I would have thought your comments were
just the doom and gloom of a fan that easily gives up on a team. But to be
honest, I am now starting to worry. I think you have to clearly look at
Verlander and Bonderman. Their numbers seem to scream so injury that they
are hush about. And our hitting just is not consistant enough.

Now, I don't think you can blame Dombrowski for this. I think he has put a
fine team together. At least on paper before this year. Is it the pitching
coach who has lost his pitchers? What about the hitting? I don't have the
answers.

I still hope t hey turn it around soon and play the way they are capable of.

Don't forget about Rogers, he has been pretty shitty this season,
too. And it's not injuries that are effecting these guys. The Tigers
pitching needs a revamp from top to bottom, IMO.

Not sure what the deal is with the hitting slumps, though. Old age?

No, I sure can't. We all expected big things. How is it they make mediocre
pitchers look like Josh Beckett?

He's an overpaid bum with a pitch control problem.

Hope that you don't see him starting for the Tigers any time soon.

That shouldn't be a problem since only Cabrera, Renteria and Willis
are new to the team. Basically, it is the same starting 9 we had last
season minus Inge at third, Casey at first and the platoon guys in
left field (Monroe before he was released).

I look at the coaches, especially pitching coach Chuck Hernandez, but
also Lloyd McClendon who hasn't seemed to be able to get the hitters
to do better.

They've just got swept, again, by KC and now they have to go play 3 in
Arizona. The D'Backs are very good this year and this looks to be
another sweep for them.

LOL you sound like you are watching the past 17 years of Tigers BBall,
minues the 06-07 seasons. OK, let's say less 06 and first half of
07. In fact, WTF is the Tigers post-all-star 07 record? I'll best
the worst in baseball. Let's trade away a couple more young arms!
Jurrjens - Renteria? Are you kidding?

Hold on BK Lounge....you got a mouse in your pocket? What 'WE ALL'
expected was a tenacious hitting squad and a mediocre staff that
wouldn't be hurt terribly by giving up 4.75 runs/game. What we got is
a pile of cricket wickets who are unable to make up for said mediocre
pitching. Verlander has been the sole TRUE disappointment....WE ALL
never said this staff was going to mow down the opposing
hitters...maybe YOU did, or YOU thought it....but unless you cut/paste
commentary from any one of us saying otherwise, I beg to differ. As I
said to someone else who flippantly used that phrase on another
thread, do NOT put words in our mouths.

The real strength of the tigers for the next few years was the good
pitching draftees. It was also the reserve in case of failures. But
the prospects are mostly gone for position players and Willis, who is
ineffective (and many predicted as much). remeber, when Dombrowski
arrived, the minors were v. thin. He added some quality players, but
the minors are still thin, and now the brightest prospects are gone.

Perhaps the Deals were good one, perhaps not. So far, the tigers have
not gotten value, but I've not looked to see how the guys they gave up
have done.

Trading prospects is always a risk. I did not think trading for Miguel
Cabrera was a big risk, but so far, it has been. So, I'd think
Dombrowski has to be in a bit of trouble, much like Cashman for NYY
for the opposite reason (holding onto prospects who underperformed and
not getting the top guy --- Santana).

Hip Hop and Salsa don't mix. Especially when you have a
whiny Cracker ex 3rd baseman also. If "Jimmy" was smart
he'd enroll in the "Ozzie Guillen School of Management"
and grow some cahones. Look at it this way. All these
guys didn't suddenly lose all their hitting skills. So
some are not performing on purpose. Simple as that. It's
up to the manager and coaches to distinguish between
WHO CAN'T and WHO WON'T and act accordingly. Not make
stupid press statements like "I just don't understand it"
